European Championships Sochi Russia

Ben Andrews has recently returned from competing at the European Cadet and Junior Championships in Sochi, Russia.

Delayed by the heavy snow which caused the British Teams flight to be cancelled, British Airways were able to fly the team out 12 hours later to Moscow for a connecting flight down to the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Loosing a days training and acclimatisation the team arrived early in the morning the day before the competition and so did most of their bags!

Competing at the Olympic Park, Sochi overlooked by the snow capped mountains to the north and the black sea to the south was an amazing experience.

As one of four fencers selected by British Fencing to compete in the Mens (U17) Epee individual and Team events Ben finished 35th in the individual competition.  A couple of days later Ben and the other three put in a powerful performance in the Team Event only to miss out on a medal position by 3 points, eventually finishing 8th overall.
