Andrews claims British Champion title
Plymouth College fencer, Ben Andrews, took the British Championship Title at the British Fencing National Championships in Nottingham on the 9th September.
Ben, who has just moved up into the U20’s age category won Gold after a remarkable run of results in the poule rounds the direct elimination fights.
Ben won all of his six poule fights to be seeded joint second and gaining a bye before going into the direct elimination rounds in the table of 64. Ben won 15-8, 15-10, 15-8 to reach the finals against fellow GB Teammate Josh Wilcox. A nail-biting final saw Ben recover from 5 points down to take victory with a final score of 15-9
Having won Individual and Team Silver Commonwealth medals in Newcastle in July, this national title could be a real game-changer for the 17 year old British athlete as he embarks on his first of three years in the U20’s category.
