Senior British Champion

Ben Andrews took gold at the British Fencing Senior National Championships 2022 in a 121 athlete strong competition, to secure his first Senior British Champion title.

Competing in the Men’s Epee category, Ben won 5 poule fights to be seeded 14th going into the direct elimination rounds.

A consistently strong and confident performance saw Ben win 5 elimination fights 15-3, 15-7, 15-11, 11-9, 15-10, to reach the final.

In a tense final fight, Ben faced Olympic Gold Medalist Pentathlete and No.1 ranked British Fencer, Joe Chong, who has been competing alongside Ben on the World Cup circuit over the last year.

Ben took an early lead and managed to hold a point lead throughout the fight until the final period when he was able to increase the lead to win 15-12.

Previous British Champion in the U20 and U23 age categories, this Senior title is a significant achievement for Ben at 20 years old and comes days after GB Team selection for the Senior European and World Championships in Turkey and Egypt.

Ben now becomes the 3rd youngest Mens Epee British Champion.
